L. Colvin McCrady
CEO

Colvin began his career in 1969 as a Commercial Package Underwriter with Chubb Insurance Company in Pittsburgh. After 5 years of underwriting experience, he moved to the Independent Agency side where he has maintained his Property, Casualty & Life license since 1975. He purchased the R. A. Paynter Agency in 1975 and merged it with the Simpson Agency in 1985.

William H. Simpson
Principal & President

Bill began his insurance career when he joined the Simpson Insurance Agency as a partner in 1975 and completed a buyout of the business in 1978 when he became the sole owner. Bill merged with Colvin McCrady in January of 1985 to form Simpson & McCrady LLC. Since then, the Agency has grown in size and scope to represent over 5,000 clients in over 48 states and numerous foreign countries. Bill currently holds the title of President within Simpson & McCrady, and is actively involved with his own book of personal and commercial clients.

Christopher McCrady
Principal & CFO

Chris began his career as a D&O underwriter for Chubb Insurance Company. In 1997, Chris joined Simpson & McCrady as a producer and account manager. Chris is currently the CFO and is also a partner.

S. Clayton Saftner
Principal & COO

Clay began his career with Chubb Insurance in their department of financial institutions as a multi-line underwriter. In 1997, Clay joined Simpson & McCrady and moved to the brokerage side of the insurance business. Over the past decade, Clay has developed his own book of commercial, benefit and personal clients. He has also managed Simpson & McCrady’s commercial insurance department, become COO and an equity partner in the organization.

Donald Balla
Principal & Group Benefits Manager

Don started his career in Insurance and Investment Consulting. In 1995, Don began to focus in healthcare when he assumed a sales position with Aetna, Inc. In 1997, Don began his practice in Employee Benefits with a concentration as a Healthcare Specialist. Over the past 12 years, Don has counseled clients in the area of group benefits. As Managing Director of Benefit Services Department and equity partner, Don manages the day-to-day operations of the Benefits Department and works with his personal client base.  Don is past President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of National Association of Health Underwriters.

Kim Costanza
Account Executive

Kim began his insurance career as a property and marine underwriter in 1985 with the Chubb Group of Insurance companies. After working with Johnson & Higgins’ large property division, Kim joined Simpson & McCrady in 1989. For the past 19 years, he has developed a stable portfolio of commercial and personal clients. Kim is a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and is currently working on the Associate in Risk Management designation (ARM).

Michelle Deramo
CISR, Administrative Assistant

Michelle began her insurance career with Northwestern National Insurance Company in 1979, as a rater-coder, typist then became an Assistant Underwriter. Michelle worked for different agencies before joining Simpson & McCrady LLC in 1989. She left Simpson & McCrady LLC in 1998 to be at home with her children, and returned in October 2007. She currently works in the Personal Lines Department.

Sandra L. Fenters
President, Alternative Risk Division

Sandra began her career with Chubb Insurance in 1996 as an Underwriter working in Surety and eventually Professional Liability in both the Pittsburgh, PA & Warren, NJ offices.  In 2007 she joined a regional brokerage firm in Pittsburgh as an alternative risk consultant and advisor.  In 2010 she joined Simpson & McCrady as the Managing Director of the Alternative Risk Division.  Sandra is a graduate of Allegheny College and a member of the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA).

Ellen Goodman

Director of Marketing

Ellen graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a Business degree in Marketing.  Her extensive Sales/Marketing experience includes ADP, ExecuTrain and SHADY AVE Magazine.
Ellen will be involved in marketing, advertising and business development for Simpson & McCrady.

Michael Higgins

Account Executive

 

Mike has served as an employee benefits consultant for more than thirty years, formerly heading the insurance firm of Higgins-Wilson Associates before becoming an officer at Alexander and Alexander Benefits Services, Inc.  Mike has extensive experience in all phases of employee benefits including benefit plan designs, captive insurance arrangements, innovative insurance solutions and unusual financial risks. Mike has also been active with numerous community groups that include the Boy Scouts of America, the Paul G. Benedum Foundation, the Gettysburg Foundation and the University of Pittsburgh.

Lisa Hoyle
Receptionist and Administrative Support

Lisa joined Simpson & McCrady in November 2006. She fields incoming calls and performs administrative duties to support all staff. Lisa also coordinates document imaging/scanning and creates electronic copies of documents for the office. She is currently studying to become licensed in Property & Casualty.

Jessica Hollack

Client Service Specialist / Administrative Coordinator

 

Prior to joining Simpson McCrady Benefits in July 2008, Jessica has worked as an administrative assistant in the insurance business for benefits and mortgage life and disability. Jessica is the Administrative Coordinator supporting the benefits department in multiple functions.

Sandra Hrutkay
Personal Lines Account Executive

Sandi started her Insurance career in Personal Lines with S.W. Miller Agency in Washington, Pa. She then went to work for Alexander Agency, Inc./Overseas Underwriters, Inc. in Pittsburgh as a receptionist/secretary, and later transferring to the Personal Lines Department. Alexander Agency merged and became Freehold/Alexander Insurance, and in 1996 they became part of Simpson & McCrady LLC.

Mary Lou Keay
Personal Lines Account Executive

Mary Lou began her insurance career with State Farm Insurance in 1980. In 1985 she obtained her licenses in property & casualty, life and health. She was a State Farm agent assistant and then office manager until 1999 when she joined Meyer & Eckenrode, insurance brokers. In November of 2004, Mary Lou became a team member of Simpson & McCrady's personal lines department as an account executive.

Kassie Kelly
Account Manager

Kassie began her insurance career immediately following graduation from Grove City College by joining the Benefits department of Simpson & McCrady in 2004. Over the past six years she has serviced and retained current customers, developed new business, and was the Marketing Coordinator. Currently Kassie is responsible for managing middle market accounts. She is also a member of the Pittsburgh Chapter of Health Underwriters.

Marty Knable

Fiscal Assistant

 

Marty joined Simpson-McCrady in January, 2008 after being home with her family for a number of years.  She began her career as a financial analyst with PPG in 1979 after graduating from Grove City College with a degree in accounting.  She now works in the Benefits Department  producing weekly & monthly accounting reports, gathering & preparing tax information and billing commissions.

Jean Kowalecki
Account Manager

Started working for CNA Insurance in 1989 as a file clerk which eventually led to a rater/processor job in the Small Business Accounts Team. In 1999, she joined the brokerage side where she obtained her Property/Casualty Insurance License working as an account manager. In July 2005, Jean started working for Simpson & McCrady as an account manager.

Paul King
Account Executive

Paul began his career as part of The PMA Group’s management trainee program, gaining experience in commercial Property & Casualty. In 1999, Paul moved from carrier to Broker. During the past years as a broker, Paul has become the creator of the Work Risk 360SM, and is seeking to patent the first mathematically-based Workers Compensation risk management assessment. At Simpson & McCrady, Paul is responsible for account relationship development and management. He is also a member of the Pittsburgh Association of Health Underwriters and the Pittsburgh Area Group Executives (PAGE).

Kathy Lafon
Claims Administrator

Kathy graduated from Edinboro University with a B.S. in Education. She began her insurance experience with State Farm where she became licensed in Property, Casualty, Life and Health. Kathy joined Simpson & McCrady in July 2004 working in the Commercial Lines Department. She handles claims and assists Account Managers.

Patricia Lahey
Personal Lines Account Executive

Pat began her insurance career in 1966 as a commercial lines premium rater for the CNA Insurance Company in Pittsburgh. In 1972 she moved into the Personal Lines field as a customer service representative/account executive for several insurance agencies. She joined Simpson & McCrady LLC in 1994 working as a Personal Lines Account Executive.

Lisa McGee
Personal Lines Account Executive

Lisa began her career as an underwriter trainee with American States Insurance Company in 1991. During her five years with the company she was promoted to Senior Personal Lines Underwriter. In 1996, she moved from carrier to the brokerage side in the Personal Lines department. In 1998 she joined Simpson & McCrady LLC.

Barbara Moeller
Account Manager

Barb began her insurance career with Aetna in 1995. During her seven years with Aetna she serviced and retained current customers, developed new business, and was a Marketing Manager. Barb joined the Benefit Team in April, 2003 as an Account Manager. She is also a member of the Pittsburgh Chapter of Health Underwriters.

Anthony Parks
Claims Consultant 

Tony started his insurance career with Chubb Insurance handling multi-line claims and specializing in Liability losses. After leaving Chubb he worked for global insurance brokers as a claim consultant, for PNC Bank as their Corporate Claim Manager, and for Zurich U.S., working with large clients as a Claim Service Manager. Tony has been a claim consultant with Simpson & McCrady since 2002, and works closely with clients assisting them in managing the claim process and reducing the costs associated with insurance claims.


 

Maureen Papadopoulos
Group Benefits Department Manager/Account Manager

Maureen has been in the insurance industry for over 20 years.  She began her career with Phoenix Home Life in 1988.  Maureen’s professional experience encompasses both sales and service.  However, most recently her experience has focused on account management as a National Account Manager with Reliance Standard Life.  In this role, Maureen managed key corporate accounts for the central region.  Maureen joined Simpson & McCrady in April, 2009, as Department Manager, managing the Benefits Department; as well as an Account Manager.

Tom Ray
Account Executive

Tom began his career in Public Accounting and then moved into Corporate Accounting with Nike in Beaverton, Oregon. Tom moved to Pittsburgh in 1995 and worked for Paychex Payroll Service until 2005. Tom began his Insurance career in 2005. Tom joined Simpson & McCrady LLC as a Producer in July, 2007. Over the past few years Tom has grown and established his client base significantly in the Personal and Commercial Departments.

Nancy Rudowski
Account Manager

Nancy started in Insurance when she co-founded Benefit Solutions, an independent insurance agency, became licensed and serviced clients. In April of 2002, Nancy joined the Benefits Team as a Client Service Specialist focusing on claim issues, client service and renewals.

Dale Seth
Administrative Assistant

Dale began her insurance career working for a broker in the Personal Lines and Group Benefits before going to the Life Insurance Department where she spent the majority of her time. Dale joined Simpson & McCrady in 2005, Presently Dale works in the Commercial Lines Department as an administrative assistant for Simpson & McCrady. In October of 2007, Dale was licensed in Property & Casualty.

Donna began her insurance career when she worked for three years at Home Insurance Company as a Commercial Lines Rater. Donna then joined the Brokerage side where she worked as a Customer Service Representative, obtained her Property/Casualty Insurance License and AAI Designation. In December, 2002, she joined Simpson & McCrady LLC as an Account Manager.

Kim Shadley
Operations Manager

Kim’s career began with Aetna Life and Casualty as a supervisor of the processing unit in their Personal Financial Security Division. She then became Pittsburgh’s Marketing Administrator until Aetna closed their Property and Casualty operation. Kim then went to work for AMS, one of two major players in Agency Management software business. In 1997, Kim joined Simpson & McCrady as supervisor of Personal Insurance and is currently the Operations Manager.

David M. Shilling
Personal Insurance Manager

David began his career as an underwriter trainee with Chubb Insurance. During his eight years with Chubb, David worked in Chubb’s Princeton, Dallas and Cleveland offices as a personal insurance underwriter. In 1996, David moved to Chicago to assist with the creation and management of Chubb’s Northern Zone Regional Underwriting Center. David left Chubb in 1999 to join Simpson & McCrady, and manages the personal insurance department.

Mary Stockman
Account Manager Commercial Lines Marketing

Mary began her insurance career in 1982 after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh . She joined Mutual of Omaha in their Life Sales division. In 1985, she moved over to the Property & Casualty side as a Commercial Lines CSR with an independent agency. In 1989,  she worked as Commercial Lines Account Manager for 13 years. During this time she has achieved the designations of Accredited Advisor of Insurance (AAI) and the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. In February of 2008 she joined Simpson & McCrady, and is an Account Executive on middle market accounts.

Kevin Sweeney
Benefits Director

Kevin comes to the firm with 12 years of industry experience.He began his career as a Sales Representative for the MetLife Small Business Center based in Rochester, NY. After four years, he transferred to Pittsburgh to manage the Principal Financial Group Sales Office where he specialized in Employee Benefit sales for groups under 1,000 employees. In 2004, Kevin became and independent broker. Kevin currently serves as the Legislative Chair for the Pittsburgh Association of Health Underwriters.

Carlene Syes
CISR, Personal Lines Account Executive

Carlene began her career with Chubb Insurance Company. During the eight years at Chubb she worked in the Department of Financial Institutions and later became a Commercial lines Underwriters Technical Assistant. She also spent two years in the commercial lines department at a large broker in Virginia Beach, Va. Upon returning to Pittsburgh she became a Nationwide Insurance Agent. Carlene joined Simpson & McCrady LLC in 1998.

Cathy Weaver
Account Manager

Cathy began her insurance career in 1985 working as a Personal Lines Customer Service Representative for a direct writing company. In 1986, she obtained her Property, Casualty, Health and Life Licenses. Cathy moved to an Insurance Agency in 1990 where she began working in the Commercial Property Casualty Department. She became an Accredited Advisor of Insurance Designation in 1994. Cathy joined the Simpson & McCrady team in 2000 as an Account Manager. She achieved her Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation in 2007.

Susanne Wolfe
Administrative Assistant

Sue began her insurance career in the Administrative Department at AIG. Two years later, she joined Hartford Insurance as an Administrative Assistant, first in the claims department, then in the Structured Settlements Department. Sue joined Simpson & McCrady LLC in June, 2004 as an Administrative Assistant in the Commercial Lines Department. She obtained her P&C insurance license in 2007.
